If you’re planning to study, work, or migrate to an English-speaking country, here are the latest updates on IELTS and immigration requirements.

IELTS Updates
Changes to IELTS Social Media
From February 13, 2025, all official IELTS updates will come from the British Council, IDP, and Cambridge English social media pages. If you followed the old IELTS Official pages on Facebook or Instagram, they are no longer active.

Immigration Updates by Country
UK – Higher Financial Requirements for Student Visas
If you’re applying for a UK Student Visa after January 2, 2025, you’ll need to show proof of £1,450 per month if studying in London and £1,125 per month if studying outside London. This must cover at least nine months of your stay.
Australia – Higher IELTS Requirement for Student Visas
From January 1, 2025, the minimum IELTS score for an Australian Student Visa has increased from 5.5 to 6.0. This means students now need stronger English skills to qualify.
Canada – Fewer Study Permits Available
Canada is reducing the number of international student permits for 2025. Only 437,000 study permits will be issued, 10% fewer than in 2024. This change aims to manage housing and other public services while still attracting skilled students.
New Zealand – Easier Work Visa Rules
From March 10, 2025, it will be easier to get a New Zealand work visa:
- No more high salary requirement – You only need to be paid at least NZD $23.15 per hour (NZD $23.50 from April 1, 2025).
- Less work experience needed – You now need two years of work experience instead of three.
- Some jobs no longer need an English test – Check if your job is on the updated list.
