School’s Out: IELTS and OET Teaching Stories From April 2020

Apr 30, 2020 | IELTS, IELTS Coaching, IELTS Test, OET

School is out for 90% of the world’s population at the moment.

This newsletter brings you up-to-date on what we have been doing with our time. As you will see, it has been business as usual.

Where We’ve Been

We continue to work from home – but that has taken us to a lot of places digitally. You only need to read  Where Our Students Come From below to see how far we travel each month.

In addition to teaching, we have been testing various IT systems which we hope will enable you to continue taking the English language test of your choice – perhaps closer to home than ever before.

Rumours From the Water Cooler

News is reaching us of new online OET, IELTS and TOEFL tests. The GMC and some universities are already accepting some of them.

We will provide more updates on the new online exams next week.

Zoom Rooms

We have updated our classroom security and added both passwords and a waiting room.

We might even serve some virtual cookies!

Despite news in the press, Zoom is a very secure communication app that simply works better than anything else.

Mind you, if you are a government minister considering sharing secrets with us – we can make other arrangements 🙂

Newsletter

Our latest newsletter went out last week. It included announcements about new products and a special discount for students who have previously taken our lessons.

To ensure you don’t miss out on future discounts or product launches, sign up here.

Website News

This month we have continued our focus on vocabulary for the Speaking test.

We published model answers for two IELTS Speaking questions – along with a free PDF quiz for each.

The first topic we covered was about telling the truth or lies. The second was about achievements or goals.

We also published the latest in our Spotlight Vocabulary series. This is a set of curated articles containing high-level vocabulary pertinent to a number of IELTS topics.

Where Our Students Come From

We might all be locked in our homes, but that hasn’t stopped us meeting and progressing our goals online. In April, we met students from the following countries…

Berlin, Germany; Warsaw, Poland; Paris,  France; Riyadh, Saudi ArabiaQatar; Kolkota, IndiaHong Kong; New Taipei, Taiwan; Hobart, Australia; London, England (yes, we teach native speakers too!); Toronto, Canada

Student Spotlight

Olga

Hello, everyone!

I’m Olga. I’m an architect from Russia, currently living and working in Chile.

I was preparing for my academic IELTS exam with Andy.

I decided to pass an IELTS because I would like to apply for a postgraduate program for my future education in Europe. Thus I needed to pass it not less than 6.5 as an overall score and not less than 6.0 for each.

I took around 25 lessons, and most of them were writing classes. These lessons were particularly useful because they were based on improvement of my personal weaknesses. I also found extremely helpful this audio recording system when you can just listen to each lesson again as pod-cast.

Finally, I got my 6.5, with 6.5 each section and even 7.0 for reading! I’m very proud of my results because now I can realize my biggest desire to study abroad.

It’s a significant benefit to be a student of someone who knows all the hidden tricks and always gives you true objective feedback. Moreover, Andy is such an amazing and easy going person as well, I always felt so much support from his side and enjoyed each our lesson.

That’s why I would like to highly recommend Andy as a great English teacher!

Is Olga’s dream your dream? Would you like to achieve his level of success in 2020? We can help!
