The Question

You recently read an article in a newspaper about your childhood friend with whom you have lost contact for a long time.

Write a letter to the editor. In your letter:

– Say which edition and when did the article appear

– Explain why you lost contact with your friend

– Say how you want them to help you to get back in touch

The Answer

Dear Mr. Smith,

I have just read your article about the teaching personality of the year, published in your monthly periodical. The article celebrated the achievements of a lady recognised as the best teacher in this year’s annual awards. I was stunned to recognise her as a long-lost friend from decades ago and delighted to see how her career has progressed.

We both attended our local primary and became firm friends.  We developed a friendship and built a mutually respectful relationship over time. Unfortunately, we lost contact because our education took different paths and after graduating, we took on marital roles.

Please could you put me back in touch with her so that we could revive our friendship? I would be indebted if you could provide Maria with my phone number and e-mail address.

I look forward to your assistance and thank you for your time.

Regards,

Ms. Sarah Viska
