Welcome to the October 2022 edition of Spotlight Vocabulary
This series compiles articles chosen for their advanced concepts and vocabulary useful for exams such as the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) .
These are just a selection of the articles we read in October; you can find more on our LinkedIn and Twitter accounts.
How To Use These Article
A simple first step would be to read them.
If you have some extra time, you can use a vocabulary app like Anki to store the words you learn.
Have more time? Note the entire example sentence containing the word.
Last but not least, be sure to make frequent use of your new vocabulary. This will help you move the word from your passive to your active memory.
Passive vocabulary is helpful for tests of listening and reading comprehension, but requires active recall to be of any use in everyday conversation or academic writing. For the ultimate practice, book a lesson with one of our teachers or submit a Writing Correction.
